It's Here! Pantone Color of 2013

The day design lovers everywhere wait for with baited breath is here! It's better than Christmas! More exciting than the Super Bowl! Okay, this is all sheer hyperbole!

Still, Pantone's announcement of the color of the year is fun, and today is the day. Drumroll, please....

Emerald green! This makes complete sense, given the 1980s revival in fashion. I'm pretty sure the last time Emerald green was hot...

Elizabeth Taylor was flooding the market with a sequel to White Diamonds. So, yes, in other words...the '80s.

I can't even pretend I'm not all over this, though, since not to long ago I thought "My living room is basically shades of beige/brown with hits of blue and gray. Needs a little more color." And then started this project.

I don't know WHY it looks weirdly turquoise in this picture, but it is full on, let's watch Falcon Crest 1980s Emerald. Bonus points to any commenter who knows what this. All of you come back next week to see my weirdly on-trend project completed!

While Pantone is probably the post popular color prediction of the year, they certainly aren't the only ones. What are other popular colors for 2013?

Photo from Colour Futures 2013
Colour Futures named indigo as their color of 2013. Again, makes sense. Another '80s-ish jewel tone. The nice thing for those of us in mid-century homes is that these colors work very well with vintage color schemes. This indigo, for example, would look awesome in our pink tile bathroom.

Photo from Benjamin Moore
Benjamin Moore's 2013 color of the year is lemon sorbet. It's a nice, super light yellow. You actually could paint your walls this color of the year and accessorize with emerald and indigo and not look like a crazy person! I think this could be a nice change from light sandy beige or light gray or white for a most of the house neutral paint job.

What do you guys think of the colors of the year?
